As the deadlock over government formation continued a week after the elections threw up a hung Assembly in Delhi and no party is willing to step in, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has submitted his report to President Pranab Mukherjee, recommending several options including imposition of the President’s rule, with the Assembly kept in suspended animation.
The report has cited consultations the Lt. Governor had with the BJP, the single largest party with 31 seats in the 70-member Assembly, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which has won 28 seats, official sources said here on Monday.
The Congress had sent a letter to the Lt. Governor, offering unconditional support to the AAP to form a government. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told journalists that the Lt. Governor had given a few options.
“We are examining the report legally,” he said.
