Similar to his meeting with western zone States in Mumbai last month, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will chair a meeting of Chief Ministers of northern States and chief executives of public sector banks (PSBs) in Chandigarh this coming Tuesday.
The meeting will take up for review State-wise flow of credit to sectors such as agriculture, micro and small enterprises, housing, education and loans for the weaker sections of society and minority communities. Issues pertaining to the credit-deposit ratio, Centrally-sponsored schemes in each State, implementation of the “Aam Admi Bima Yojana” and functioning of State level banking committees (SLBCs) will also figure in the discussions.
The meeting, according to an official statement here, is expected to be attended by the Chief Ministers of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Apart from the PSB chiefs, top officials of NABARD and the Reserve Bank of India are also scheduled to attend the meeting.
Beginning with the first such meeting in Patna with Chief Ministers of eastern and north-eastern States on June 14 and the second in Mumbai with western states on June 28, the focus of the third meeting with northern States would also be on delivery of credit to the poor.
