Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has cancelled his visit to attend the G-20 meeting in Washington due to engagements in Parliament.

The finance ministers of G-20 countries are meeting in Washington on Friday to primarily discuss the progress made in strengthening the global financial regulations.

“He (Mukherjee) has cancelled his trip to Washington as he is pre-occupied with Parliament work,” official sources said on Friday.

India would be represented by Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla and other ministry officials, they added.

At the meeting, the focus would be on the measures initiated by the member countries, especially European nations and the U.S., to strengthen their regulatory framework.
