The Central Bureau of Investigation has called Amit Shah for yet another round of questioning in the case of the 2006 fake encounter death of Tulsiram Prajapati, a crucial witness to the Sohrabuddin Sheikh-Kausarbi killing, which the former Gujarat Home Minister has been accused of masterminding.
Out on bail
Mr. Shah, out on bail after his arrest in the case, will appear before the CBI on Tuesday, sources in the investigating agency said.
The CBI is likely to confront the BJP leader with telephone records indicating that he was in touch with police officers, including the then Deputy Inspector-General of Police, D.G. Vanzara.
The Supreme Court has asked Mr. Shah not to enter Gujarat as the CBI apprehends that he may tamper with the evidence or intimidate the witnesses.
Prajapati, a close aide of Sohrabuddin, a gangster, was killed in an alleged encounter near Chapri village in Banaskantha district on December 28, 2006.
The CBI took over the case in April last on a Supreme Court directive and registered a case against police officers of Gujarat and Rajasthan and others for their alleged involvement in the wrongful restraint, confinement, abduction and murder of Prajapati, and destruction of evidence.
Mr. Shah has already been questioned in the Prajapati fake encounter case.
The sources said he was questioned about his numerous telephone conversations with two IPS officers linked to the Prajapati killing.
