Rising above political affiliations, leaders across parties in Maharashtra expressed their deepest condolences

Rising above political affiliations, leaders across parties in Maharashtra expressed their deepest condolences over the tragic death of Gopinath Munde, the BJP's strongest leader in the State and Union Minister for Rural Development.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan extended his condolences to Mr. Munde’s family. “He was above politics and political parties and worked for people. He claimed his current position in politics after tireless struggle for years,” Mr. Chavan said.

Nationalist Congress Party's Maharashtra unit president Bhaskar Jadhav said that the death of Mr. Munde has caused infinite loss to the state and the country. “We have lost a fighter,” he said. “It is difficult to believe that Mundeji is not among us. I am a witness of his years of struggle and have seen the tremendous mass support he enjoyed,” Congress leader and MP Ashok Chavan, told TV channels.

BJP's alliance partner Shiv Sena too expressed the shock over the death of Mr. Munde. “He was the architect of grand alliance (mahayuti) in Maharashtra that defeated the Congress in Lok Sabha election. He was a man with positive mind and never scared of any challenge,” said senior Sena leader Subhash Desai.

Mr. Desai added that it was his time to deliver the promises he made. “He rose to power after years of struggle. It is a huge loss for us,” he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condoled the death of the BJP leader. "Very sorry to hear about the tragic & untimely death of Gopinath Munde. May his soul rest in peace & I pray his family find strength", Mr. Abdullah tweeted.
