The police have failed to make any headway in investigating the murders of three employees of a vernacular daily, inviting the ire of media organisations. They have not made any detention or arrest till Tuesday, 10 days after the murders in the office building of the Dainik Ganadoot in the vicinity of Ujjayanta Palace here.
Two assailants stormed into the office around 3 p.m. on May 19 and strangled and stabbed to death newspaper manager Ranjit Choudhury, proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee and driver Balaram Ghosh. The incident created panic and a sense of insecurity among newspaper employees and residents.
“We are worried at the delay of the police to nab the killers,” the National Federation of Newspaper Employees (NFNE) said in a statement on Tuesday. The organisation of both journalists and non-journalist newspaper workers also stated that the “Manik Sarkar-led Tripura government has not taken any visible action to resolve the case.”
Earlier, media organisations in Tripura, the rest of the country and abroad, had condemned the incident.
