A court here on Friday allowed the Delhi Police to take voice samples of senior advocate Shanti Bhushan, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh for further investigation into a forged CD case.

Mr. Bhushan had claimed that the CD, allegedly containing recorded conversation among him, Mr. Amar Singh and Mr. Yadav on how to influence a sitting Supreme Court judge, was forged. He sought rejection of the police closure report, which concluded that there was no substantive evidence to prove that the CD was forged.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav, who on January 25 rejected the closure report and ordered thorough investigation, now accepted the police plea for collecting voice samples through the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory.

On January 25, the magistrate faulted the Special Cell of the Delhi Police for not finding the motive behind the preparation of the CD. He wondered why the investigation focussed only on forgery without probing the source of the CD.

The CMM rejected the probe for not recording the voice samples of Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mr. Bhushan and Mr. Amar Singh. He also directed the DCP of the Special Cell to conduct further probe, removing the lacunae he had pointed out.

On June 26 last, the police met Mr. Bhushan at his Noida residence seeking clarifications on the source of the CD.
