After the arrest of Sanjeev Saxena in the cash-for-votes scam over the weekend, the Delhi Police have approached the Union Home Ministry for permission to question Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh and Lok Sabha member Ashok Argal of the BJP.
“We have written to the Union Home Ministry, seeking permission to question MPs Amar Singh and Ashok Argal,” said a senior Delhi Police officer. The statements of the two former BJP MPs, Mahavir Bhagora and Faggan Singh Kulaste, were recorded under Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has also served notice on Sohail Hindustani, a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activist, asking him to appear before it for questioning on Wednesday.
Sohail — who has been named in the case along with Sanjeev Saxena, alleged to be an aide of the then Samajwadi Party general-secretary, Amar Singh, and Sudheendra Kulkarni, political aide to the then Leader of the Opposition, L.K. Advani — has been questioned on more than one occasion.
The case pertains to the display of large amounts of cash in the Lok Sabha by three BJP MPs amid charges of vote-buying on July 22, 2008, during the debate on a vote of confidence sought by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government.
