A police outpost in Sukna near Siliguri in Darjeeling district of West Bengal was set ablaze allegedly by suspected supporters of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) on Sunday evening. Some cars parked outside were also set on fire.

According to reports reaching here, the GJM supporters were demonstrating since earlier in the day. They were demanding the handing over of a youth suspected to have been involved in the murder of a local teenage girl a few days ago. Her body was recovered on February 14. The youth reportedly surrendered at the local Pradhannagar thana on Sunday. A strong police contingent has cordoned off the area.

It was only on Saturday that the district’s Left-Front called for a 12-hour bandh, condemning the “violence and the reign of terror” unleashed by the GJM in the Darjeeling Hills.
