The Mohali police have not ruled out foul play in the death of Fiza Anuradha Bali, whose highly decomposed body was recovered from her house in Mohali on Monday morning. The investigators are awaiting the post-mortem and viscera analysis reports.
The estranged second wife of the former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, Chander Mohan, Fiza was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her house in Sector 48 of Mohali, on the outskirts of Chandigarh.
Initial autopsy could not ascertain the cause of death and a medical board has been constituted to go into it.
Mohali district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told reporters on Tuesday that preliminary examination of her body did not reveal any injuries. Investigators have been questioning various people about Fiza’s activities.
No signs of struggle
The mystery deepened as the police recovered a bottle of liquor, some eatables and cigarettes from her house. While the door was not locked from inside, there were no signs of struggle at the spot. Her mobile phone appeared to be switched off since August 1, when some of her friends and an uncle talked to her last. As she was not on friendly terms with the neighbours, people got suspicious only when a foul smell began emanating from her house.
Her uncle and police later found her body in a bedroom on the ground floor. It appeared that Fiza died at least four days ago.
A former Assistant Advocate-General in the High Court, Fiza came under the spotlight for converting to Islam to marry Chander Mohan, who assumed the name of Chand Mohammed. The marriage that lasted a few weeks resulted in a major controversy after which Chander Mohan returned to his family divorcing Fiza.
Meanwhile, friends and relatives cremated Fiza’s body here as per Hindu rites.
