Police on Saturday said they have destroyed a Maoist camp in Odisha’s Deogarh district.

District Superintendent of Police Ashish Kumar Singh said the camp was destroyed Friday in Prabhasuni reserve forest area.

He said police raided the camp and engaged in a brief gunbattle with the rebels which ended with the Maoists fleeing the area.

“Two-three rebels might have sustained injuries in the gunfight, although they managed to flee,” he said.

Police have also seized some arms and ammunition from the site, he added.

The district headquarters town of Deogarh is about 280 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
