The Prime Minister's Office on Friday removed all references to Bangladesh in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's candid observations, which had shocked many in the diplomatic circles.
There was no explanation available on the website as to why Dr. Singh's comments were erased from the final transcript.
The comments, which linked a quarter of Bangladesh's population to Jamait-ul-Islami, an organisation he describes as anti-India, did not go down well with the community of former diplomats, who felt they were improper coming from the head of the government.
While it is known that certain portions of Dr. Singh's observations were not to be reported, the preliminary draft on the government website carried the comment which was reported by The Hindu .
