Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday refused to comment on the ongoing controversy over Army Chief General V.K. Singh's age that includes Gen. Singh's action of taking the government to the Supreme Court on the issue.

“It is a sensitive issue. I do not want to comment,'' Dr. Singh said on the sidelines of a function to launch a book, The Tribune 130 Years: A Witness to History.'

Barring a reaction from Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju, who termed the Army Chief's action “unfortunate,” the government has avoided any comment on the issue since Gen. Singh petitioned the Supreme Court this week.

Reports suggested that the Army Chief called on Mr. Raju but no details were available.

The Defence Ministry has decided to treat the issue as sub judice and refrained from making any comment on the development.

In fact, Defence Minister A.K. Antony avoided reacting to questions on the issue on Wednesday and issued a ‘gag order.'
