Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said he would not like to “pre-judge” whether the Congress would extend support to former UPA ally DMK’s candidate to the Rajya Sabha.

When asked on Friday whether the Congress party would support the DMK if approached, he said, “I can’t say on behalf of the Congress High Command. These are matters which are discussed at the highest level in our party. It will not be proper for me to pre-judge what stand the Congress party will take.” Dr. Singh is on his way back from Japan and Thailand.

DMK now has 23 members in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and on its own it cannot ensure the entry of its candidate to the Rajya Sabha.
