June 19, 2015 04:04 am | Updated 04:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had been silent all through the political storm over Myanmar operations, has quietly met soldiers of the 21 Para Regiment, the special force which took part in cross-border raids in Myanmar last week.

The soldiers were in the national capital to meet the Prime Minister a few days ago.

Mr. Modi congratulated the Para team and learnt the details of the operation, Defence Ministry sources said. Senior Army officers of the Eastern command were present.

About 50 personnel of 21 Para crossed over into Myanmar from Manipur and Assam and targeted two insurgent camps eliminating around 60 insurgents in the action.

This came days after insurgents from several groups in the region led by Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)-Khaplang ambushed an administrative convoy of 6 Dogra regiment killing 18 soldiers. Mr. Modi also met the ‘Cobra’ commandos of the CRPF who took part in an encounter in Jharkhand on June 8 and killed 12 Maoists.
