PM Modi a poster boy for broken promises, says Congress website

July 04, 2016 12:56 am | Updated 12:56 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the “poster boy for broken promises,” the Congress said on Sunday, as it tore into the performance of his government that it called a “regime of lies.”

“PM Modi has become the poster boy for broken promises. His government and politics is built on a foundation of deceit and falsities,” the Congress said in a commentary posted on its website. It is titled ‘Soaring inflation, rising intolerance, the rupee in ICU, youths in long queue! Are these the Achhe Din promised by PM Modi?’

Claims exposed In the poll campaign, Mr. Modi had promised so many things and was “able to spread lies, in the garb of truth… But his claims have been exposed in the last two years,” it said. Mr. Modi had promised two crore jobs a year. In reality, he “delivered just 1.35 lakh jobs.”

“This is after he has been screaming hoarse on how the economy is booming under his leadership. If the economy is booming, where are the jobs? In contrast, the UPA [government] created nine lakh jobs in 2011,” the party said.

Taking a dig at Modi’s supporters who say his travels have raised India’s prestige abroad, the party wondered about the product of his foreign policy.

“Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Pampore, 1,000 ceasefire violations have been the direct result of Mr. Modi’s diplomacy. India has been left red-faced in its quest to become an NSG member,” it said. Because of Mr. Modi’s “adroit” diplomacy, it said, Russia removed its arms embargo on Pakistan, China was propping up Pakistan, and the U.S. agreed to sell Pakistan fighter aircraft. “Experts are still trying to find the success stories of Shri Modi’s foreign policy!” The commentary said Mr. Modi and his government were the “bane” for the middle- and lower-income groups in India. “From the soaring prices of pulses to his silence on the promise to increase the income tax base to Rs. 5 lakh and doubling the farm income, Mr. Modi is unconcerned about fulfilling his promises as he is too busy travelling across the world.”

The party said the Prime Minister “failed” the women by “completely neutering” the Nirbhaya centres. “Today, crimes against women are on the rise, and Mr. Modi has been unable, or perhaps, unwilling to do anything.”

When Mr. Modi relinquished office, he would leave India “broken and battered.”
