Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for strengthening the federal structure and said everyone had to work together as ‘Team India.’

Emphasising the significance of the full majority won by the BJP, the Prime Minister said it had an impact on the world’s perception of India.

“The BJP’s forte was its organisational power. A party which was reduced to two seats in the Lok Sabha won a clear mandate in the Lok Sabha polls. BJP workers across the country worked to win the love of the people and the result was a stable government with a clear mandate. A full majority is not limited to gaining power or having ease in the decision-making process. It has a wider impact on how the world perceives you. Why is the Chinese President coming to a city like Ahmedabad? The reason is the clear mandate given by 1.25 billion. For 30 years, the world was waiting for India to have a government with a clear majority so as to extend their ties with us,” Mr. Modi said in his address at a felicitation programme.

The occasion brought together Mr. Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on the same platform. It was the Prime Minister’s first visit to his home State after taking charge in New Delhi.

Taking a dig at the notion of grand visions, Mr. Modi said: “I am an ordinary man. I live for ordinary people. I have small ideas to help them rise to a big stature.” He cited the example of the Jan Dhan Yojana and his visit to Nepal as small steps that achieved great change. Mr. Modi said the Central government was capable of achieving the goal of “benefit for all, happiness for all.”
