People from Maharashtra disappointed

Over 250 people, who had come all the way from Pune and other parts of Maharashtra, on Saturday to pay tributes to their Maratha forefathers at Kala Amb near here were disappointed when President Pratibha Patil did not visit the War Memorial but participated in a function nearby to commemorate the 251st anniversary of the Third Battle of Panipat.

Sporting saffron headgear and carrying saffron flags, they reached the War Memorial on motorcycles and cars. Consisting of men, women and youth, they waited for the President to arrive. By the time they walked down to the venue of the official function and waved flags and raised slogans, Ms. Patil was about to leave. She smiled and waved back at the ‘protesters.'
