Former Union Minister A. Raja on Thursday took exception to Congress spokesperson P.C. Chacko's comments on the final arguments on the 2G spectrum case in the trial court at Patiala House, wondering how the former chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the 2G issue could comment on the proceedings of another forum after submitting his report to Parliament.
“Instead of commenting on the proceedings of the court from outside, it would be better for the country that he may opt to come and depose as a prosecution/ witness. In such a case I will welcome it,” Mr Raja said in a statement.
Mr. Raja also recalled Mr. Chacko’s refusal to call him to depose before the JPC despite his requests and the appeals from leaders of various parties.
“He also did not have the courage to include my detailed reply which runs into more than 100 pages in his report to maintain fairness, transparency and credibility of the proceeding of the JPC, as against his assurance given to me personally and to Mr. T R Baalu who was also the member of JPC,” Mr. Raja said.
Alleging that Mr. Chacko had lost moral and legal right to comment upon the proceedings of the trial court, Mr. Raja said he was attempting to interfere in other ways with the proceedings of the trial court to mislead the media and the public .
“It is totally untenable, uncivilised and unwarranted. I did not expect such a statement from Mr. Chacko who is expected to have minimum knowledge on the mode of functioning of different institutions working for different purposes,” he said.
