Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar, who was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital here on Monday, was discharged on Tuesday morning.

While the exact details of Mr. Pawar’s visit are not known, sources in the party said the leader had gone there for “a routine check-up.”

Advised rest

“He is doing all right. Doctors have advised him rest, and therefore he will not be receiving visitors for a day,” said NCP spokesman Madan Bafna. Mr. Pawar, who turns 72 on Wednesday, was admitted to the hospital under the care of oncologist Sultan Pradhan. In 2010, he underwent surgery there for an oral affliction.
