Passengers of AC coaches must carry ID proof

Carrying identity cards has been made mandatory for those travelling in air-conditioned train coaches with effect from February 15.

The railways has issued a circular to this effect, saying carrying proof of identity has been made compulsory to prevent travelling on transferred tickets, black marketing of tickets and involvement of touts.

One member of a group booked under the same ticket will have to carry one of the approved IDs irrespective of even if the ticket was bought from a computerised reservation counter.
