Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu has said the party would decide the next president and that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had nothing to do with the day-to-day political affairs of the organisation.
He told journalists here on Friday that no final decision was taken on who would be the next president and discussions were on.
Following the organisational polls in different States, elections at the national level would be held. He dismissed as speculation reports that Maharashtra State unit chief Nitin Gadkari would be the next president.
He said party president Rajnath Singh had expressed a desire to step down before his term ended. But the tradition was to continue till the new president was elected.
Mr. Naidu admitted that the recent happenings in Karnataka had dented the party’s image.
