A day after a video surfaced in which he accused a section of the media of taking money to create a “Modi wave,” Aam Adami Party chief Arvind Kejriwal demanded a probe against news channels “who took money from political parties for favourable coverage.”
Addressing a rally at the KP ground in Nagpur after his day-long road show in the city on Friday, the former Delhi Chief Minister said he was not scared of the media too.
“Some news channels are now showing that Kejriwal threatened them. But it is the other way round. You threatened us. But we are not scared of the media,” said the AAP chief.
In New Delhi, the Editors Guild of India condemned Mr. Kejriwal’s “repeated attacks” on the media and said it reflected “an intolerant mindset” that resented any critical scrutiny.
Anna not to back TMC
Two days after he refused to show up at the Ramlila Maidan for a joint rally with Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, social activist Anna Hazare on Friday said he skipped the event as not even 4,000 people had assembled at the venue and he was “misled” by the organisers. The rally was meant to mark Ms. Banerjee’s arrival on the national stage.
The 74-year-old activist said he supported Ms. Banerjee, but ruled out backing her party in the Lok Sabha elections. “Her character, her sacrifice, her ideology, I supported but not the party,” Mr. Hazare said.
Mr. Hazare said he was informed that it was Ms. Banerjee’s rally, while the Trinamool chief was told that she was attending his rally. “She was misinformed and I was misled,” he said.
