Parliament was adjourned for the day after obituary references on Monday.

In the Rajya Sabha, members paid homage to sitting member Murli Deora, while in the Lok Sabha, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan led the House in condoling the death of sitting members Hemendra Chandra Singh and Kapil Krishna Thakur and former MPs M.S. Sanjeevi Rao, Amitava Nandy, Avaidyanath, Saifuddin Choudhury, Sanjay Singh Chauhan and Brahm Dutt.

The House condoled the deaths in the floods that ravaged Jammu and Kashmir as well as in Cyclone Hudhud that hit Andhra Pradesh.

In the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the new Ministers.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Modi expressed hope that the Opposition would cooperate in Parliament to make it a “fruitful and result-oriented” Winter Session.

He said just as the Opposition played a “positive role” during the Budget session, it should extend the “same cooperation” during the current session.

“I have confidence that a lot of good work for the betterment of the people will be done with a cool mind and in a cool atmosphere,” the Prime Minister said.
