A three-member committee will suggest measures to prevent tripping of the western power grid, maintain grid discipline and restore normality during crisis, according to an official statement on Wednesday.

The recent grid collapse that left most of the northern and eastern States in darkness did not affect the western States.

However, Western Regional Power Committee (WRPC) chairperson and Mahavitaran managing director Ajoy Mehta called a meeting on the issue. It was attended by representatives of power utilities from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa and companies such as Tata, Reliance, JSW and Torrent Power.

The committee, which has been asked to submit a report within a month, will comprise WRPC technical coordination committee chief and director of Mahatransco Uttam Zalte, general manager of the Western Regional Load Despatch Centre P. Pentayya and its member-secretary S.D. Taksande.
