The retired Gujarat Director-General of Police, P.C. Pande, and Rajkot Police Commissioner Geeta Johri have sought more time for appearing before the CBI in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Mr. Pande, who is on a religious trip to the Kailash Mansarovar, has informed the CBI that he will return here only on August 18, while Ms. Johri, who was earlier heading the State CID (Crime) team investigating the Sohrabuddin–Kausarbi murders, has just returned from a training stint in London.

The CBI earlier summoned Ms. Johri to appear before it on Tuesday and Mr. Pande on August 11. CBI sources said the agency would fix revised dates for both key witnesses later.

Meanwhile, four Rajasthan cadre police personnel — assistant sub-inspector Narayan Singh and three constables — have been remanded to a day's police custody by the Danta court in connection with the Tulsiram Prajapati encounter case.
