The Maharashtra government will write to the Centre to take up the handing over to India of 20 Pakistanis convicted in the November 26 terror strike. Home Minister R.R. Patil told reporters on Monday that a special sessions court convicted 20 of the 35 accused of waging war on India and clearly there was proof of a conspiracy.
Mr. Patil said the Centre should pursue the matter and bring to India whoever was involved in the terror strike. The State government would soon write to the Centre to take up the matter. At the same time, there was no question of handing over Kasab, the lone surviving gunman in the terror strike, to Pakistan.
Regarding the acquittal of two Indians in the case, Fahim Ansari and Sabahuddin Ahmed, Mr. Patil said the court gave them the benefit of doubt. “Unless I read the entire judgment, I cannot comment on this,” he said.
