The BJP has said it will be against normality in relationship with Pakistan unless Islamabad takes decisive action against terror elements operating from its soil against India.
A resolution adopted by the National Council of the party here accused the Manmohan Singh-led government of sweeping under the carpet the 2004 agreement between Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pervez Musharraf in which a commitment was made that the soil of Pakistan would not be allowed to be used to target India.
The Council maintained that terrorism was again playing havoc with security. It noted that since July 2005, about 25 major terror attacks occurred in the country, killing 500 people.
Terrorists enjoyed a safe sanctuary in Pakistan because of the patronage they got from the ruling establishment and the armed forces, and both state and non-state actors played their own part there, said the resolution.
“Lashkar-e-Taiba enjoys an enormous patronage of the ruling establishment of Pakistan, a fact too well known. Indian Mujahideen, prime suspect in the recent Hyderabad blasts, has over the years evolved as the country’s most lethal terror outfit whose rationale is revenge and prime motivation, gruesome attacks in crowded places. Its main proponents are also enjoying safe sanctuary in Pakistan,” the resolution pointed out.
The UPA was focussing only on politicising terror, it noted and referred to the remarks on “Hindu terror” by Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde (for which he expressed regret later). His comments gladdened the heart of Hafiz Saeed, mastermind of 26/11, the resolution said. Rank politicisation of terror for vote-bank politics has only weakened the nation’s resolve and capacity to combat this menace, the party said.
