Pakistan Maritime Security Agency guards arrested 48 Indian fishermen and seized eight of their boats near the Jakhau port off the Gujarat coast on Friday, the National Fishworkers’ Forum said.

The forum said the guards fired several rounds in the air before overpowering the fishermen and taking them to Karachi from Indian waters.

“We have learned that the fishermen and boats belonged to Porbandar and Veraval. The fishermen were taken to Karachi and lodged in jail,” Manish Lodhari, secretary of the forum, said.

Last December, the agency captured 58 fishermen and seized 11 of their boats near the International Maritime Boundary just off the Jakhau port.

On January 4, 12 fishermen were arrested and two boats near seized the International Maritime Boundary.
