Pak providing cover to infiltrators: J&K DGP

Infiltration from across the border is on the increase because Pakistani troops are providing cover to militants, the Jammu and Kashmir DGP, Kuldeep Khoda, has said.

“Infiltration has increased in the past two months. Pakistani troops and rangers are providing cover to militants to help them infiltrate into the Indian side,” he told reporters here on Sunday.

However, militancy-related violence has declined by about 28 per cent in the state this year as compared to the corresponding period last year, he said, adding that around 15 dreaded terrorists have been killed recently, including top commanders like Abu Hamza and Abu Jindal.

“Despite an increase in infiltration and militant activities, the situation is under control,” Mr. Khoda said.

Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor recently said that ceasefire violations by Islamabad were on the rise and the Pakistan army was resorting to firing on the border to push in maximum militants before winter.
