The legal battle over the appointment of Archana Ramasundaram as Additional Director in the CBI has taken a new turn. R.K. Pachnanda, whose name was recommended by the Central Vigilance Commission for the post, has filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court, saying that he wants to be made a party in the case.

The case will come up for hearing before a Bench led by Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha on Monday. Mr. Pachnanda said it was necessary that he be made party in the case as the controversy also concerned him and he should be in a position to protect his reputation in court.

Ms. Ramasundaram’s appointment triggered a controversy as she was selected by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which overlooked Mr. Pachnanda. Her appointment is under challenge in the Supreme Court by senior journalist Vineet Narain.
