The police on Tuesday declared the former Goa Tourism Minister and Nationalist Congress Party legislator Mickky Pacheco, who is on the run, a prime suspect in the case of the suspicious death of Nadia Torrado.
The decision was based on prima facie evidence and the post-mortem report received from a Chennai hospital, Goa Superintendent of Police and public relations officer Atmaram Deshpande told The Hindu here.
It was found that the body bore “serious injuries including head injuries” indicating that the woman was badly battered.
The Crime Branch earlier in the day registered a case under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder against unknown persons.)
After the death of Ms. Torrado, a case was registered under Section 306 (abetment to suicide against unknown persons.)
She died 10 days ago in the Chennai hospital, where she was admitted after she had allegedly consumed rat poison at her residence in south Goa.
