Minor labourers rescued in Koraput

They were employed as child labourers

: Twenty four minor girls used as child labourers in a cashew processing unit were rescued in Koraput district of Odisha on Saturday.

Three of the rescued girls were from adjoining Nabarangpur district, while the rest were from villages of Boriguma block.

They were rescued from the cashew processing unit at Chalanguda village under Boriguma block during a raid by a special squad led by Koraput Child Protection Officer (CPO) Rajeswari Das. All of them were between 13 and 15 years, he said.

According to the CPO, the rescued girls have been sheltered in Jeypore.

As per the instruction of the CWC, steps would be taken for rehabilitation of the girls in consultation with their parents, said the CPO.
