Zeliang appointed Nagaland CM

T.R. Zeliang of the Naga People’s Front was on Friday appointed as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland following the >resignation of Neiphiu Rio .

Governor Ashwani Kumar would administer the oath of office and secrecy to him and the new Council of Ministers on Saturday.

Mr. Zeliang had staked claim to form the new government consequent to the resignation of Mr. Rio, who won the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland on NPF ticket with a margin of over four lakh votes.

Mr. Zeliang had been holding charge of the Ministry of Planning and Coordination and other departments in the Rio government.

In the 60-member Assembly, the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland has 52 MLAs while the Opposition Congress has only eight MLAs.
