A day after Janata Dal (United) MLC Manorama Devi’s son Rocky Yadav allegedly shot dead a teenage boy for overtaking his SUV in Gaya district, party president and Bihar chief Nitish Kumar, on Monday, asserted that the police were doing commendable work in the case and guilty would not be spared.

The police, meanwhile, have launched a manhunt to nab Rocky Yadav. A court on Monday sent his father, Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav, and his mother’s bodyguard, Rajesh Kumar, to judicial custody for 14 days.

While on way to the district court Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav told journalists that “he was unaware where his son Rocky Yadav was and why the police had taken him into custody.”

Both were arrested by police on Sunday on the charge of “criminal conspiracy and harbouring the accused”.

“….the police have acted swiftly in the case and they must be commended for this. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under Gaya city SP to investigate the case…An IG (Inspector General of Police) is camping there and the guilty will not be spared”, said Nitish Kumar, while addressing journalists on the sidelines of his weekly junta durbar .

“And, this is rule of law…when an incident happens, the police take action promptly. There are several factors responsible…the mindset of the person, the circumstances and all but the action taken by the police is important and that is what is happening in this case too”, Mr. Kumar added.

When asked about the Opposition taking on his government over the Gaya incident, he said, “when they were with us they were hardy bothered with anything but now they keep hankering about law and order situation in the State”.

“What about the law and order situation in Delhi…its worse in the country”, Mr. Kumar asked.

“No one should worry about the law and order situation in the state…there is rule of law in Bihar and no body will be spared after committing crime”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Opposition has called for a bandh in Gaya, protesting the killing of Aditya Sachdeva, son of a businessman who was allegedly shot dead for overtaking an SUV that was driven by Rocky Yadav.
