Writers' Buildings abuzz with activity

March 01, 2011 09:57 pm | Updated October 01, 2016 12:23 am IST - Kolkata:

The normally sleepy corridors of Writers' Buildings, the State secretariat, on Tuesday witnessed frenetic activity, with groups of officials running around various departments trying to get their pending files cleared in anticipation of the announcement of the election schedule for West Bengal.

It was the Financial department where majority of the people were seen milling around, although the Public Works, Urban Development and Panchayat and Rural Development departments were also buzzing with activity. Many employees were quizzing reporters on whether their dearness allowance arrears would be declared ahead of the poll announcement.

A different look

The Secretariat, which begins to wear a deserted look by evening on a normal working day, looked different on Tuesday as new batches of people trooped in trying to get the authorisation signatures from the Ministers.
