Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed here on Wednesday that the Trinamool Congress government has been able to restore work culture in the State.
“In terms of work culture we are the number one State in the country,” Ms. Banerjee told journalists at the State Secretariat.
“The people have rejected the strike,” she said, thanking the people of the State for having faith in her.
Ms. Banerjee, who visited certain markets and auto stands during the day, said that more that 50 per cent of the shops were open in the city. “Attendance in most of the State government’s departments was 100 per cent,” she said.
“Earlier, there was a spontaneous strike for 24 hours after anyone gave a call,” Ms. Banerjee said, adding that people used to suffer from a fear psychosis.
Urging traders who hadn’t opened their shops till afternoon to do so, Ms. Banerjee said the State government had already announced that it would provide compensation to the shops owners affected during the strike.
