The Yogi Adityanath government faced flak for “deterioration” in law and order as two girls were kidnapped in broad daylight in Meerut and Shamli and a woman was chased, thrashed by a group of men and later shot dead inside a police post in Mainpuri on Monday evening.

In a shocking incident of police inefficiency, Aneesa was chased and thrashed by a group of men as she ran towards a police post in the Agra Chowki Gate area of Mainpuri. The mob followed her into the police station where she was shot. She latter died of injuries in hospital.

The police said the crowd had outnumbered the personnel at the station, who failed to prevent Aneesa’s murder. The police added that the murder was triggered by a land dispute and that they had arrested the killer, Wasim.

SP charge

In another incident which prompted the Samajwadi Party to raise the issue of “deteriorating law and order” in the State, a 20-year-old woman, Rishu, was kidnapped in front of the main gate of Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut on Monday. The miscreants who came in a black car abducted her when she was walking outside the university with her brother Arjun on her way to the bus stop.

Arjun said he had tried to fight the criminals but they overpowered him and bundled Rishu into the car which did not have nameplates.

Dharmendra Singh, who is in charge of the Medical College police station, told The Hindu that the police had registered a case against unknown people and was investigating the case.

In Shamli, four men allegedly barged into the house of a farmer and kidnapped his daughter, said a police complaint filed in the Mariana area.

Rafeeq Ansari, SP MLA from Meerut, said the State government had failed to control the criminals.
