Woman researcher found murdered in Imphal East

The partially decomposed body of Satyabhama Ningombam, a research fellow at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences here, was found on a paddyfield in Imphal East District on Friday afternoon.

Police suspect murder. Attempts were made by the killers to destroy the woman’s identity by burning the upper parts of the body, including the face. It was from the ID card in her handbag that Ms. Ningombam was identified. Officials said she was not a regular employee of the RIMS, a government of India undertaking, but was engaged in the Pathology Department for a project. The body was deposited in the mortuary for post mortem.

Village chieftain kidnapped

In another incident, village chieftain Khangba Thangal of Tumnoupokpi in Senapati district was kidnapped by armed persons, suspected to be Kuki militants, at gunpoint on Thursday night.
