A 27-year-old woman was raped allegedly by the driver of the cab she had hired to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi's Inderlok on Friday night. The woman who works in a finance company in Gurgaon was returning home after having dinner with her friends.
The incident took place around 9-30 p.m. when the woman was on her way back to her house.
“The woman had gone to a restaurant in Gurgaon for dinner with some of her friends after her shift ended at 7 p.m. One of her friends dropped her till Vasant Vihar in South Delhi following which she hired a cab run by a private company to reach her home in Inderlok,” said a police officer.
“On her way back, the woman slept on the back seat of the car. On waking up she found that the cab driver had stopped the car at a secluded place and was molesting her. When she tried to raise an alarm and flee, she found the car’s doors locked. The driver then thrashed her and raped,” the officer said quoting the woman's complaint.
The accused then threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident to anyone and then dropped her near her home in Inderlok.
“The woman clicked a photograph of the car’s number plate and then made a call to the police control room and reported the incident,” the police official said.
The victim was later sent for a medical examination, which confirmed rape but she wasn't given any sedatives.
“A case has been registered at the Sarai Rohilla police station under sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. We have identified the cab company and the driver, who is in his mid 30’s and raids are being conducted to nab him,” said a police official.
Police did not reveal the names of the accused and the cab company for convenience in investigation.
