A 30-year-old married woman died here after being allegedly raped and burnt alive by her neighbour, who was arrested on Tuesday, the police said.
The victim was alone at home in Panki district yesterday when Brajkishore raped her and then set her on fire, she had told her neighbours, SSP Shalabh Mathur said.
The victim’s husband, who was working in the fields, rushed home after the neighours informed him about the incident. He found he partially burnt and immediately rushed her to the hospital, where she died on Monday night, he said.
Her family alleged the police was initially reluctant to lodge an FIR, but when they complained to the SSP a case of rape and murder was registered against Brajkishore. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. - PTI
