A married woman was killed and her family members seriously injured when her lover allegedly threw acid on them while they were sleeping at their residence in Porsa town in the district, police said on Sunday.

The victim Rubi Rawat had shifted to Ambah town after her marriage with Sanju, where they were living in a rented accommodation belonging to the accused Yogendra Tomar, they said.

Later, Mr. Yogendra fell in love with the woman and persuaded her to accompany him during a visit to Morena town.

However, after realising her mistake, the 26-year-old victim ran away from his captivity and was living with her relative in Agra for the last one-and-a-half month.

When Rubi returned to her parent’s home along with her cousin Janu, Mr. Yogendra reached Porsa and attacked the victims with acid, police said.

The victims were rushed to Morena district hospital, where Rubi succumbed to her burn injuries. The other family members were battling for their life, they said.

A case has been registered against the absconding accused, police added.
