A 24-year-old woman was set afire on Wednesday after she was abducted and gang-raped allegedly by a neighbour and his friends at a village near here, police sources said.
According to an FIR lodged with the Bagdogra police by the victim’s father, he found his daughter on fire at the house of his neighbour after he was informed by villagers at Ramajotha. The woman was admitted to the North Bengal Medical College Hospital with severe burns, the sources said.
The father alleged that his daughter was kidnapped by Barui on December 14 and gang-raped by him and his friends after she was drugged.
When she regained consciousness and tried to escape, Barui allegedly poured kerosene and set her alight, the FIR said.
The victim’s father lodged an FIR earlier on December 14 stating that his daughter was missing.
