A 25-year-old married woman from Nagpur was allegedly gang-raped by three persons for close to eight hours in a car here on Thursday. Police arrested two of them and the other is absconding.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahesh Patil told reporters that the woman, who had completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), hired a share taxi near the Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Park at Hinjewadi on the outskirts of the city to go to Bhandarkar Road for an interview around 4 p.m. on Thursday. The three men in the vehicle took her to desolate places in the city and raped her till late on Thursday night.
While Ranjit Gade and Ganesh Kamble were arrested by the Hinjewadi police from the nearby Maan village, Subhash Bhosale, is absconding. The woman is under trauma and has been admitted to a government hospital.
The incident is the latest in a series of offences against women working in the IT sector in the city. In October 2009, a software engineer was raped and murdered by a security guard, a cab driver and three others. In August 2009, another software firm employee was murdered by her colleague. In November 2007, a 22-year-old employee of a call centre was raped and murdered by the firm's driver and his friend at a village off the Mumbai-Pune expressway.
