In a shocking incident, a woman from West Bengal was found hanging from a tree in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Sunday, after she jumped out of the Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail on Saturday.
The police have registered a case of murder and disappearance, but they are yet to confirm rape.
“From the inquest it is clear that she was murdered and we have registered a case. But it does not appear that she was raped. There are no signs of struggle. “However, we have put a requisition for post-mortem. If the report confirms rape, we will surely investigate. We have so far rounded up 15 persons,” K.S. Anupam, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bhagalpur, told The Hindu .
The woman was travelling with her ten-year-old son, niece and the niece’s husband. According to the statement of the relatives, the woman jumped out of the train on Saturday afternoon at the Lakshmipur halt.
“Her relatives say she wanted to get off when the train slowed, but she was discouraged. However, she was bent upon getting off and alighted at the halt. We don’t know why the relatives did not get off with her. We don’t know why she jumped.
“When the train reached Bhagalpur, the relatives complained to the government railway police. A missing entry was recorded on Saturday afternoon,” Ms. Anupam said. The GRP launched a search, but she could not be traced on Saturday.
Her body was found on Sunday, Kazipur Bagicha in Kahalgaon, about 10 km. from where she jumped, Inspector General of Police, Rail, Vinay Kumar, told The Hindu .
