Woman chases away miscreants at Rahul rally

March 11, 2014 12:38 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:27 pm IST - DEOLI (TONK, RAJASTHAN):

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s repeated assertion of women empowerment found a manifestation during his first pre-election rally here on Monday when a woman party worker wielded a baton to chase away some miscreants from the women enclosure.

Trouble broke out at the rally venue during former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s speech when some miscreants tried to misbehave with the spectators in the women’s enclosure. Annoyed with the lack of response from the police constables guarding the enclosure, a woman Congress worker started thrashing the miscreants with a baton.

The woman, whose name could not be confirmed, not only beat up the miscreants but also chased them out of the rally venue. The Tonk police denied receiving any complaint about the matter.

“It was probably a minor scuffle, which was sorted out then and there among the Congress workers ... We did not receive any formal complaint,” Tonk Superintendent of Police Satyendra Singh told The Hindu .
