Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi raised eyebrows again when he declared that he was ready to become supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi if special status was granted to Bihar. He also said that politics should not come in development of States.

“If you fulfil your commitment to provide special category status to Bihar I’ll become your supporter,” declared Jitan Ram Manjhi on Saturday while speaking at the inauguration of the Barh Super Thermal Power Project IV unit here. The Union Power Minister (Independent) Piyush Goyal and all seven Ministers from Bihar in the Modi Cabinet were present on the occasion.

Mr. Manjhi also said that the Centre should reimburse the Rs 1,000 crore spent by Bihar government for repair of national highways. In a dig at the ‘seven ministers’ of the Modi cabinet from Bihar, he urged them to fulfil the dues of the State government for its development.

“Politics should not come into development path of any State,” Mr. Manjhi said while referring to the omission of name and photograph of his party leader Nitish Kumar from the billboards and advertisements of the inauguration.

“In place of high decibel claims the State needs concrete steps to solve its problems on the ground. You “sat bhaiyas’ [seven brothers] should ensure development of the State,” said Mr. Manjhi.

Recently, Mr .Manjhi had hit headlines for his comments that ‘upper castes are of foreign descendents.”
