The notification for the crucial elections to 81 municipal bodies, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, in West Bengal on May 30, will be made on April 26.

“The notification for the election process will be made on April 26 from when the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect and will be effective till the process is over,” Chairperson of State Election Commission Mira Pandey said on Saturday.

Counting for the elections to 1,792 wards of the municipal bodies would be held on June 2.

The last date of nominations is May 3, with scrutiny the next day and withdrawal of nominations on May 6, she said.

A total of 85,33,238 electors would be eligible to vote in which EVMs would be used.

There will be 10,698 polling stations for elections to the 1792 wards and 50,000 polling personnel would be used.

Stating that adequate security arrangements have been made for free and fair elections, she said that the State government has been asked to provide armed security personnel at all polling stations. It has been asked that the Centre deploy central forces.

“I have also held meetings with leaders of different political parties and requested them for co-operation so that there is no law and order situation,” she said.

There will be 123 observers for the elections.

A total of 499 wards have been reserved for women, 269 for scheduled castes and 60 for scheduled tribes, she said.
