Union Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy on Sunday assured students and parents that all efforts would be made to conduct admissions in the Government Medical College in the coming academic year itself.
Reacting to Medical Council of India's decision not to renew permission for admitting second batch of students in the coming academic year, he said a similar situation existed last year as well but the government was able to overcome it and admit students.
“This year too, we will try and prevail upon the MCI to renew its decision,” he said at a press conference.
The government was not sure about the grounds on which the MCI refused permission, he said.
To repeated query on the government's stand on Iqbal Singh's continuing as Lieutenant Governor in the wake of allegations surrounding him, Mr. Narayanasamy said, “political parties have been raising allegations against him. But, the office of Lieutenant Governor cannot be drawn into discussion, remarks or comments as it comes under the Constitutional jurisdiction of President of India.”
Refuses to comment
To questions related to Enforcement Directorate interrogation and criticism against Mr. Singh for misusing his official position in getting allocated a medical college for a trust linked to him, Mr. Narayanasamy refused to comment.
The Union Minister said he was confident that the Congress, along with its allies, would be able to form a government in the Union Territory.
