Faced with the prospect of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) opposing the Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail, the Government on Tuesday said it will engage with its top leaders M Karunanidhi to convince him about the benefits of the move.
``I am sure the Prime Minister and senior leadership of Congress has spoken and will speak to the leadership of DMK,’’ Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma told newspersons accompanying Prime Minister Manmohan Singh back from his visit to Cambodia. Dr. Singh did not hold his customary end-of-the-visit press conference on board the plane and fielded Mr. Sharma instead.
``We will convince them that all concerns that have been raised in the past have been addressed in shaping the policy factoring in the social and economic realities of India,’’ added Mr. Sharma while terming the DMK as a “valuable ally”.
